Privacy Policy

Scholarships4U is a personal, educational project, not a commercial service. This page explains what it collects and how that information is used in plain language. It is not legal advice.

Information you provide

• Profile details you enter to get matches: GPA, grade level, citizenship status, U.S. state, financial-need level, intended fields of study, optional race/ethnicity tags, activities, and target schools.
• Account details (optional): your email and a password. Passwords are stored only as a salted bcrypt hash, never in plain text.
• Résumé and essay text you choose to submit to the AI features.

How it is used

• To rank scholarships for your profile and show the reasons behind each match.
• To generate optional AI essay guidance and to extract details from a résumé you upload or paste.
• If you create an account, to save your profile and tracked scholarships so they are there next time.

Third-party AI processing (Anthropic)

The optional AI features — essay advice, draft feedback, and résumé auto-fill — send your inputs, which can include your profile details and any résumé or essay text, to Anthropic's API to produce the result. That processing happens on Anthropic's systems. This app does not store your résumé file, and you are asked to consent before the first time you use an AI feature. If you would rather not share that data, simply don't use those features; the matching tool works without them.

Storage and security

• Accounts and saved data are stored in a database. Sessions use a signed, HTTP-only cookie, and the site is served over HTTPS in production.
• Without an account, the profile details you enter are not retained between visits. Your browser stores a local confirmation that you acknowledged the age and consent notice, so we do not show it on every visit.

Your choices

• Use the matcher without an account — no data is retained.
• If you have an account, you can change your password or permanently delete your account (which removes your saved profile and tracked scholarships) from Settings.

Children

This project is not directed to children under 13, and you must be at least 13 years old to use it. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.

Not affiliated with sponsors

Scholarships4U is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any scholarship provider. Scholarship details are a curated set, some still marked for verification — always confirm eligibility and deadlines on the official sponsor's page before applying.

This is a student project provided for learning and demonstration. For a production service handling data from minors, this policy should be reviewed by a qualified attorney.
